RGD launches Training of Trainers Program

The RGD Project has officially launched on February 23, 2011 its major new initiative: a Training of Trainers (ToT) Program for civil servants and community leaders. This all-day high-profile event brought together leading experts on regional economic development from Canada, Hungary and Ukraine to provide orientation on this innovative new program. Presenting at the event were also representatives from Ukraine's Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, National Association of Regional Development Agencies, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Conference Board of Canada. Read CUI’s news story on the ToT launch event here.

Over 80 civil servants and community leaders from 13 regions across Ukraine will be trained in project management, strategic planning, and alternative financing over the next 6 months.  The ToT participants will attend 2-day modular seminars at Lviv Regional Institute and Dnipropetrovsk Regional Institute.  After each module, they will return to their respective regions to apply their new knowledge and skills to projects of various types: constructing and improving roadways; improving water supply and heating systems, creating industrial parks and logistics centres, as well as developing strategic plans for cities and regions. After completing the 6 modules for each course, the ToT graduates will become nationally-accredited trainers. They will then deliver training in their particular subject to 600 colleagues across Ukraine as part of the RGD-supported National Training Program. This training program is anticipated to start in spring of 2012.

The ToT Program will be delivered by a group of Ukrainian specialists – many of whom have been involved with the RGD Project for many years.  They were an integral part of the ToT Working Group (WG) that designed over the last several months the curricula that will be used in delivering the ToT Program. The 25 WG Members were chosen based on their experience in delivering applied training programs to civil servants, as well as their expertise in the three subject areas of the ToT Program. The WG also included experts on social and gender equality, environmental sustainability, and monitoring and evaluation, to ensure that these themes are fully integrated in all aspects of the training.  For more details on the ToT Program and the WG members, please read our latest issue of RGD Making a Difference, found here.
