RGD Kyiv office joins recycling initiative

The RGD team in Kyiv recently joined a new campaign, called “Let’s Save the Planet Together!”. Its objective is to increase people’s awareness of environmental issues in Ukraine, while also encouraging more sustainable practices in the workplace. Specifically, the Kyiv team has signed on to the “Green Publishing” initiative and is now recycling all paper waste via special bins provided by the campaign organizers. Thus far, over 180kg of paper waste has been diverted from the landfill!

While the RGD team, both in Canada and Ukraine, strive to incorporate environmental sustainability values into office operations, we are also committed to promoting environmental sustainability through other avenues: RGD’s training programs on regional economic development provide skills in environmental impact assessments. Several demonstration projects currently supported by RGD aim to ameliorate environmental conditions. For example, a project team from Golitzyn Grad, Cherkassy region, is dedicated to improve the treescape of a local park that was established in the 18th century. Another project team from Ternopil, Lviv region, is working to modernize the city’s waste treatment facilities to avoid run-off into local river systems.

About the project

The Regional Governance and Development (RGD) Project is a seven-year initiative that promotes regional economic development (RED) in Ukraine. RGD’s current efforts focus on working with its Ukrainian partners to establish a practical in-service training program on RED for some 600 civil servants from 13 oblasts across Ukraine.
